The Old Town Design Guidelines were recently updated to provide clear guidance and certainty for development within our world-recognized heritage resource that is Victoria’s Old Town. They were unanimously approved by Council and have received the Canadian Institute of Planning Award of Merit for 2019. The proposal for this site appears to contravene several of the essential requirements of the Old Town Design Guidelines as well as the National and International Standards from which they were derived. This is the first real test of interpretation and compliance to these award winning Guidelines and the DRA LUC expects Council to correctly interpret and uphold the requirements of this document and the international standards from which they are derived.
