Healthy Living Committee Meeting – August 22nd

The HLC meeting has been re-scheduled for Thursday, August 22nd at 7 PM. Venue change from Silver Threads to QV Bakery at the corner of Fisgard Street and Government Street.

Two topics that will be discussed are:

  1. Block Watch: Bruce Cuthbert, Director, Esquimalt Chamber of Commerce, was the person we spoke with about the Block Watch program. A Block Watch program may be effective in addressing both actual crime in hot spots downtown and also the perceptual issues around downtown crime and safety. Target areas can be developed using the online resource Crime Reports published by VicPD. Here’s the link: https://vicpd.ca/crime-reports if you want to see what’s been happening in the hood.

  2. Graffiti Pole Painting Program: The City developed an anti-graffiti program in consultation with community stakeholders. The DRA was involved in this initiative and participated in the initial community kick-off – walking the streets and painting poles! There is a lot more information about the broader program here: http://www.victoria.ca/EN/main/departments/engineering/downtown-beautification/anti-graffiti.html.

All DRA members are welcome to attend.
