Hiring! Yates Street Community Garden Coordinator



The Yates Street Community Garden is seeking a new Administrative Coordinator with a start date of November 01, 2021. The Coordinator provides administrative support to the Garden and Steering Committee. The position is a part-time fee for a service contract position with flexible hours. The rate of pay is $833.33 per month. The initial term is for one year with the possibility of extension subject to funding and Garden direction.


There are no set hours for this position. But, the current Coordinator works approximately 4 to 15 hours per week, depending on the season. The work is primarily from home, but the incumbent must attend meetings, events, and volunteer functions in person several times per month.


Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to promote and support community projects and events.

  • Demonstrated administrative and record-keeping skills Resourcefulness and a detail-oriented mindset Demonstrated proficiency with word processing, Google Docs, social media, and website maintenance (familiarity with WordPress would be a bonus).

  • Demonstrated tactful communication and proven ability to develop and maintain effective cooperative relationships with various stakeholders.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work with others in a cooperative, respectful, and discreet manner.

  • Must have a flexible schedule and be available on occasion to work in the evening and on the weekend as required by the contract.

  • Gardening experience an asset, i.e., home gardener, community garden, professional landscaping and gardening experience.


Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the list of Garden Members and the current waitlist.

  • Monitor and maintain the Garden's email account.

  • Provide administrative support to the Steering Committee. Duties include (but are not limited to) attending meetings, drafting meeting agendas, recording meeting minutes, drafting. correspondence and press releases.

  • Coordinate and co-organize a minimum of two community activities in conjunction with the Steering Committee.

  • Organize and execute call-outs for volunteers for work parties and other events.
