Re: Notice of Application for a Liquor Primary Licence – 586 Johnson St – Forged Axe Throwing

Dear Mayor Alto and Council,

We understand that Forged Axe Throwing at 586 Johnson St has applied for a liquor primary licence.

In absence of the long-anticipated Municipal Alcohol Policy, the LUC developed and the DRA ratified the DRA Policy for Liquor Primary & Late Night Food Primary Liquor Licences on 02 Feb 2020. All relevant liquor applications are reviewed on the basis of this policy and our assessment of the application’s performance is included below.

Feedback from the Committee is:

  • There are neighbouring residential units that neighbour the location and the outdoor patio. This should be considered in the ongoing operations and hours of the establishment.

  • There are residential units that are directly next to the outdoor patio (the DRA did not see the floorplan layout). The outdoor patio hours should align with other outdoor patios in residential area (for example another bar in the downtown area closes their outdoor patio at 9pm).

  • The applicant should not be permitted to broadcast noise to the outdoor patio.

Late night activities are needed in the downtown area of Victoria and, pending

resolutions of the above concerns, this could be a beneficial addition.

Sincerely,

Jordan Royer

Co-Chair Land Use Committee, Downtown Residents Association
